One of the first things I would like to share is how God provided me with
poster board. It was shortly after I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. I
will also share with you that I was brought up in a house that wasn’t really
religious. The only person that really went to church faithfully was my Great
Grandmother, who taught a Sunday school class. Later that changed and my mother
and sister became involved as the years went on. However in the beginning my dad
and I just believed that you didn’t have to do the whole baptism thing. I now
believe it was because of the times we saw things in church it was a big show
and someone making a big production about things. My dad and I were those people
who would rather go unnoticed. He and I would always say, “Well, you can just go
out in the pasture, and God can take care of your business there.” My mother
didn’t agree with that too much. So I must say that now, I surly know that being
baptized is an important step, as well as other steps, AND it isn’t about making
a big show. In fact not long ago, God required me to call my dad and tell him we
were wrong. I thank God for my dad, and will continue to believe for him.
But one day, after God had continually been dealing with my heart and
revealing himself to me, things began to happen. I had been reading Appointment
in Jerusalem an account of Lydia Prince’s life. I had heard Doyle share about
the humility of this woman and I wanted to know what she was about. I would only
read, when I believed it was right to. I am not sure how long it took me to read
it, only because I read it as I believed God was directing. In doing this it was
amazing to see what I would read, and then something would happen in my life
that would somehow relate to what I had read, or I would be reminded of
something Lydia told God.
As some of you know, I am a school teacher.
With my job I would many times do projects throughout the year, or projects
around historical dates. At this time I was teaching 3rd grade and we were going
to do a project. Many times instead of requiring the students to buy things for
these times, I would supply everything. Well, this particular time I was needing
everyone to have poster board. So as usual I planned on getting some the night
before I needed it. That evening, I told Anthony I needed so many poster board.
He said, “Misty, we don’t have the money.” I hadn’t expected to hear that. I
thought oh my gosh I have got to have this poster board, but there was no money
for it. The next morning I got up and was driving to school. I was praying and
considering what to do about not having any. I was also considering the things I
had read in Lydia Princes accounts of her moments with God. Finally, I said,
“Well, I will just have to believe God for poster board.” I will be honest and
tell you that there was not all this great faith, but all I somewhat knew was it
seemed to work for Lydia and others. I went through the day and it was the lunch
hour. I had planned on doing the activity in about an hour and a half or so. I
went to go run copies for the afternoon and was in the copy room. A fellow
teacher stepped in while I was in the room, and said, “Hey, do you need any
poster board?” I just looked at her. She said well, someone just stopped by and
donated a whole case of poster board so if you need any it’s here. Needless, to
say God provided and all our needs were met. Praise God!
